The House of Representatives on Wednesday resolved to summon the Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mela Kyari, to explain the recent increase in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly known as fuel in Nigeria.
The resolution of the House followed the adoption of a motion of urgent national importance on the recent increase in the price of fuel moved by Ikenga Ugochinyere.
In the motion, which said that the increase in the price of PMS will lead to the increase in food prices across the country, Ugochinyere prayed the House to set up an ad-hoc committee to investigate the increment.
Members, who contributed to the motion agreed that the price of oil is determined by the market sources, even as they called for the invitation of oil marketers to contribute to the discuss.
In adoption the motion, the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, who presided over plenary, referred it to the Ad-hoc Committee.
