Relegation Troubles Forced Bayelsa Deputy Governor Out Of Stadium, As Fans Held Coach Eguma Hostage

Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Peter Akpe, wasted no time to leave the Samson Siasia Stadium in annoyance after Rangers Int’l scored the second goal against Bayelsa United in a Matchday 36 of the Nigeria Premier Football League decided on Sunday.

Akpe was immediately accompanied out of the stadium by the Commissioner for Sports, Daniel Igali, and other top government officials before the end of the crucial encounter which sealed Bayelsa United’s relegation to the second division.

The Yenagoa-based side will now be competing in the Nigeria National League (NNL) next season after losing 2-nil at home to The Flying Antelopes.

Meanwhile, Bayelsa United fans were furious on Sunday, as they held Coach Stanley Eguma hostage following the team’s relegation.

The fans who were not satisfied with the outcome of the match refused to allow the experienced coach leave the stadium by besieging his car.

In the words of some fans, “Oga coache come out from your car. You non go comot here because you must drop the N30 million for ground”, echoed the fans.

However, the coach was later seen leaving the stadium after the intervention of security men.
