PSG Owner Denies Involvement In Man Utd Buyout Bid

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has denied any involvement with Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani’s bid to buy Manchester United.

Sheikh Jassim is one of the leading candidates to takeover the Red Devils, as well as INEOS chairman Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

On Friday, The Athletic reported that Al-Khelaifi has played a ‘significant role’ in talks for the Qatari bid for United.

The PSG chief is said to have been asked by Sheikh Jassim’s team for advice on the club’s valuation, with around £6.4billion being the asking price from the Glazers.

Al-Khelaifi is also reported to have been contacted by the American family in a bid to convince the Qatari’s to raise their bid.

However, he has now denied being involved in Sheikh Jassim’s efforts as United continue to wait for their new ownership.

“Paris St-Germain is my club, in my heart, and I have nothing to do with Manchester United,” he said after a meeting with the European Clubs’ Association.

“It makes me laugh. I am Qatari, right? If people ask me my opinion, I will answer them for sure – and that’s what they do.

“I am talking about anyone, not just Manchester United. I will give them the experience that I have. That’s it.”

Sheikh Jassim submitted a fifth and final bid to buy United from the Glazers last week.

His offer is for 100 per cent control of the club with Friday being set as the deadline for it to be accepted, or they will withdraw.

Such a bid is still short of the Glazers’ valuation, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe believing he is in the box seat to takeover at United.

Should he be the successful candidate, both Joel and Avram Glazer will retain some of the shares in the club.
