National President, Association of Micro-Entrepreneurs of Nigeria (AMEN), Saviour Iche, has charged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to probe the subsidy regime of the Muhammadu Buhari administration, claiming that the subsidy regime in the previous administration was riddled with fraud.
Iche, who disclosed this to journalists on Friday, condemned what he described as the massive subsidy regime during the Buhari administation.
He affirmed that the manner of implementation of subsidy by the previous administation led to the bleeding of the Nigerian economy, as well as an increase in the nation’s debt profile.
According to Iche, who is also the national president of Ambassadors of Peace and Enlightenment (APEF): “President Muhammadu Buhari was the minister of Petroleum Resources and he should take responsibility for the terrible and unwholesome things that took place in the ministry during his tenure, including the plundering of our common wealth through the fraudulent subsidy regime.
“President Tinubu should look into the way subsidy was administered in the last government and he will recover what they have stolen from the country.”
He argued that the economic policies of the Buhari administration led to the pauperization of a large number of Nigerians.
“Unemployment increased massively in the country, especially youth unemployment and poverty increased to the extent that Nigeria became the poverty capital of the world.
“These were the result of mismanagement of the Nigerian economy by the previous administration; we need to recover the stolen funds. The members of the cabal should not more powerful that the Nigerian government.”
While urging the government to give licences to other people to build refineries so as to promote competition in the oil sector,
Iche argued that the government should hands off the oil sector and allow the private sector to run it.
He urged the Federal Government to ensure that the refineries are made to work, adding that attention should be shifted to the non-oil sectors of the economy.
