    President International Military Sports Council (CISM) Wrestling Sports Committee & 3 Iranian Coaches Arrive Nigeria

    President International Military Sports Council (CISM) Wrestling Sports Committee & 3 Iranian Coaches Arrive Nigeria

    *To train Nigerian Military Coaches and Wrestlers upon the approval of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa OFR*

    The President International Military Sports Council (CISM) Wrestling Sports Committee and 3 Iranian Coaches have arrived in Nigeria to train Nigerian coaches and wrestlers.

    The high-powered delegation was received by the CISM Wrestling Sports Committee African Representative Lt Col Okou from Nigeria and Lt Col Gandi Bello, Iran Defence Attachee and Deputy Director of Sports Defence Headquarters at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

    Their arrival to Nigeria under the umbrella of CISM Solidarity Training Programmes was graciously made possible following the approval of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa OFR, to host the 10days event.

    The CISM Wrestling Sports Committee President, Col Naser Hassani from Iran and Nigerian Lt Col Okou Femedein Timipre and the Iran Coaches met with the Director of Sports Defence Headquarters Abuja, AVM NK Kumzhi and CISM/OSMA Vice President and President on Wednesday as part of the events lined up for the programme.

    Speaking, the CISM Wrestling Sports Committee President thanked Nigeria for the arms of friendship and hospitable environment, commending the organisation and leadership of the Nigerian Military.

    While thanking Maj Gen Maikano Abdullahi Vice President and President CISM/OSMA and AVM NK Kumzhi Director of Sports Defence Headquarters for their continued support, he praised Lt Col Okou Femedein Timipre, a member and African Rep, to the CISM Wrestling Sports Committee for his dedication to the development of the sport across Africa.

    During the meeting, the Iranian Delegation and President CISM Wrestling Sports Committee Col Naser Hassani announced that upon the approval of the Iranian Chief of Delegation (COD) Gen Jamshid Fooladi:

    a. Nigeria Military Wrestling Team was to be invited to Iran for training camp.

    b. Nigeria is the main base of military wrestling in Africa.

    c. The CISM Solidarity Training Programme was to make a new relationship between Nigeria and Iran.

    e. Nigeria was to host Beach Wrestling 2026.

    f. Nigeria is invited to Iran for the CISM Climbing for Peace Championship.

    g. Nigeria has a good military sports management team.

    In his remarks, AVM NK Kumzhi, Director of Sports Defence Headquarters Abuja, said that the Nigerian military is committed to creating friendships and forming fruitful diplomatic partnerships.

    Describing sports “as one of the ways to create opportunities for friendships and graciously our sports loving General, the Chief of Defence Staff gave us the approval to host this event, and we are grateful to him”.

    He maintained that Nigeria will do everything possible to support the development of military wrestling in Nigeria and across Africa at large.

    Meanwhile, Maj Gen M Abdullahi, President Organisation of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA) and Vice President CISM also commended the Iranian delegates for their great contributions to the development of wrestling in Africa, noting that the efforts of Iran will be disclosed to all African Countries during the General Assembly.

    The high point of the meeting was the presentation of sourvenirs.
