Edo state football Association has congratulate Assembly of God Fc Ekpoma , Edo state for reaching the round of 64 of the 2025 President Federation Cup competitiom.
The non league side on Wednesday March 5th 2025, against all odds defeated De Sapele Lions Fc of Delta 5-3 On Penalties after 1-1 at regulation time in the national play- off encounter which held at Akwa township stadium Anambra state, to qualify for the next round of the oldest Football tournament in Nigeria.
The chairman, Edo FA, Fred Newton Erhunmwunse commended the FA cup new comers who were also the surprise Package of the tournament in Edo state as they eliminated some notable teams on their way to reaching the FA Cup Final in Edo state were they were subdued by the 2023 National champions Bendel insurance Fc of Benin.
” congratulations to to Assembly Fc, We are very happy as they secure their passage to the round of 64 of the Federation Cup, this is massive for Edo state, they have also put their names in the record books of the tournament, nobody gave them a chance, for us we knew they will go places after what they did during the state competition, we shall continue to give them our support, it is our believe that the boys can go all the way along side their big brothers Bendel insurance at the national level, they should continue to work hard to achieve more success, the boys can have a drink now, but they should delay the party, Fred Newton Erhunmwunse stated.
According to the organisers of the President Federation Cup Competition( NFF) the National draws for the Round of 64( Men and women) will hold on Wednesday 12th March 2025 in Abuja, which will involve a number of new comers such as Assembly of God Fc, Ekpoma.
The Round of 64 of the competition is scheduled to begin on the 19th of March 2025 accross the country, with cup holders El-Kanemi warriors of Maiduguri, as well past winners Lobi stars, Bendel insurance, Enugu Rangers, Heartland Fc, Kano pillars, shooting stars fc, and Akwa United in contention.
