The Palestinian armed group Hamas has unleashed new attacks against Israel, the most serious escalation since the two sides fought in 2021, a war which lasted 11days.
Hamas said on Saturday that it had fired 5,000 rockets, while Israel confirmed that the group’s fighters had entered its territory.
The Israeli military replied with air strikes on targets in Gaza and said it had mobilised tens of thousands of reservists.
Many people have been killed in Israel and one person in Gaza in the conflict so far.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel is “at war” and has vowed that Hamas will “pay a price it has never known”.
Israel-Palestine conflict has stretched for so long and the world has ignored its harsh realities. Between 2000 and now, more than 14,000 people have died.
According to Britannica’s ProCon, 1,512 Israelis and 8,441 Palestinians died between 1987 and 2014 due to the conflict. Some Palestinians carry out reprisals while Israel maintains a firm chokehold on Gaza and West Bank areas of Palestine.
