Victor Napoli is set for a financial windfall in his new contract with Napoli.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport and Calciomercato.com, the Serie A champions are prepared to substantially increase his wages from the current figure of €4.5 million per season to somewhere around €7.5 million (about N6.4 billion).
The club want the 24-year-old to sign off on an extension until the summer of 2027, with the option of a further year.
There will also almost certainly be a release clause inserted into Osimhen’s new deal, which is rumoured to be in the region of €150m–€160m.
The Nigeria international scored 26 goals to emerge as Serie A’s top scorer last season, a feat that has attracted interest from top European clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and PSG, but none has made an official bid.
The former Lille player turned down a lucrative move to Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal over the lure of Champions League football. The decision sank well with Napoli, who are determined to keep him or let him go for nothing less than €180 million.
The player’s agent and Napoli have been in negotiation for a new contract for the past week, but the deal has been stalled by the former’s insistence on a release clause being inserted into the new contract.
Despite speculations about his future, Osimhen was always going to spend next season at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, with new coach Rudi Garcia recently asserting the player had assured him he would stay at the club.
