Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka has warned the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) not to part ways with head coach Eric Chelle, citing his exceptional leadership and tactical prowess. Onyeka’s endorsement comes after Chelle led Nigeria to a third-place finish at the AFCON 2025 tournament in Morocco, showcasing brilliant football and earning praises from players and fans alike.

Onyeka praised Chelle’s ability to connect with players, saying, “When Chelle took charge, you could see his game plan and tactics. He’s a good and lovely man, someone you feel comfortable around. He’s very open-minded and gives everyone the opportunity they deserve.”

The midfielder’s appeal to the NFF is clear: “Don’t let him go, because having him as a manager is one of the best things that has happened since I joined the national team.” Onyeka’s sentiment is echoed by other players, including Wilfred Ndidi, who also urged the NFF to retain Chelle.

Despite the calls for continuity, NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau has ruled out immediate contract extension talks with Chelle, citing that he’s only halfway through his two-year deal. The decision on Chelle’s future will likely be revisited in the last six months of his contract.
