    Oborevwori Honours Team Delta’s Outstanding Performance at 2025 Gateway Games

    In a grand ceremony, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State fulfilled his promise to reward excellence by honouring the athletes and officials of Team Delta for their remarkable performance at the recently concluded 2025 Gateway Games held in Ogun State. The event was a testament to the governor’s commitment to recognizing and appreciating the state’s sporting talents.

    Governor Oborevwori expressed his pride and admiration for Team Delta’s outstanding achievement, which saw them emerge as overall champions with an impressive haul of 126 gold, 100 silver, and 111 bronze medals, totaling 337 medals. This remarkable feat reaffirms Delta State’s dominance as Nigeria’s sporting powerhouse. The governor recalled the state’s unmatched record of winning the National Sports Festival seven times consecutively, highlighting the team’s consistency and excellence.As a token of appreciation, Governor Oborevwori presented cash rewards to the medalists, with:

    – One Million Naira awarded to each gold medalist
    – Five Hundred Thousand Naira awarded to each silver medalist
    – Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira awarded to each bronze medalist

    This generous gesture demonstrates the governor’s commitment to motivate and reward the state’s athletes for their hard work and dedication.

    Acting Director General, Muobo Egalase, described the governor’s gesture as a recognition of past achievements and a motivation for future competitions. He assured the athletes and sports officials that his administration would continue to prioritize their welfare and sports development, providing the necessary support to help them excel in their respective disciplines.

    The ceremony was a celebration of Team Delta’s excellence and a testament to the state’s commitment to nurturing and rewarding sporting talent. Governor Oborevwori’s gesture is expected to motivate the athletes to continue striving for excellence, further solidifying Delta State’s position as a sporting powerhouse in Nigeria.
