In addition, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has made known the names of the successful athletes who have been selected as winners of the cash rewards given by Nigeria’s Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu Ejidike, at the ongoing National Youth Games.
SWAN announced Team Abia’s 13-years-old Weightlifting young star, Esther Ezenwa, who won Gold medal in the 45Kg event and the first female to win Gold in the 2023 National Youth Games has been adjudged one of the winners of the Fifty thousand Naira (N50,000) cash donations announced by
Stephen Godswill, a 13-years-old Team Bayelsa athlete who was the first Male to win Gold medal in the -49kg Weightlifting event also got N50,000 for his effort.
In Karate, Eteimo Victory, (14), who was the first to win Gold in the -47kg female category, received N100,000 for being the first to achieve such feat in this year’s competition.
Ejidike had earlier in the week approved the financial benefits to the first Male and Female athlete to win Gold in the Weightlifting event, the Karate event and the youngest Gold medalist of the 2023 NYG.
This development is aimed at encouraging young athletes who are taking part in the National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta state.
