The 9th National Youth Games in Asaba has seen impressive performances from various states, with 29 states winning over 346 medals so far.
The medals table from the moc after day 7 put Team Lagos on the submit with 31 gold, 15 silver, and 13 bronze medals,
While Team Edo is second with 23 gold, 9 silver, and 14 bronze medals
Host Delta is in Third place as at the time of this report with 14 Gold, 17 silver and 20 Bronze medals. In fourh place is Abia state with 9 Gold, 7 sliver and 6 Bronze medals while Akwa ibom completes the top Five with 7 Gold, 4 silver and 4 Bronze medals
Some sports events have concluded, including swimming, weightlifting, and table tennis, while others like kickboxing and wrestling are yet to begin. The games have attracted thousands of visitors, boosting local businesses and showcasing Asaba’s growing sports infrastructure, particularly the Stephen Keshi International Stadium ¹.
Meanwhile, the chairman, committee on sports at the Edo state house of Assembly Hon Donald Okogbe has commended Team Edo’s performance at the ongoing national event in Asaba, attributing their success to the efforts of the Hon Desmond Enabulele led Edo state sports commission commitment to grassroots sports development, with the backing of the state Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo.
The 9th Edition of the national Youth Games highlighting its growing importance in nurturing young sporting talents and rostering unity across Nigeria, the 9th National Youth Games which comes to a close this weekend has drawn thousands of visitors to Delta state.
