The National Sports Commission (NSC) has extended its warmest congratulations to the Nigerian Boxing team on their impressive performance at the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The NSC leadership, led by Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade, received the boxers and their coach at the NSC headquarters, commending them for representing Nigeria with distinction.

During the reception, Chairman Dikko lauded the boxers for their remarkable achievement, considering the limited preparation time they had before the Games. He expressed pride in their efforts, stating, “We are proud of what the boxers were able to achieve in Riyadh despite the very limited time they had to prepare for the event, they have made the nation proud as worthy ambassadors.”

Dikko also reaffirmed the NSC’s commitment to revamping boxing in Nigeria, pledging to work closely with the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) to develop and promote the sport. “Nigeria has the potential to rule the rest of the continent in boxing, we are going to work closely with the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) to scout and develop more talents across the nation through vigorous grassroots programs,” he said.

The Nigerian Boxing contingent, led by coach Oyeleye Abayomi, won a silver medal through Adeshina Zainab Motunrayo in the women’s (51kg) Flyweight category, while Raheem Ridwan Male (65kg) welterweight also represented the country with distinction.

Vice President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) Hon. Omonlei Imadu praised the NSC leadership for their commitment to the advancement of Olympic-style boxing in Nigeria. He expressed confidence that the NBF would continue to work closely with the NSC to improve the standard of boxing in the country, citing the success of the first-ever amateur boxing league in Africa, which he initiated.

The NSC’s reception of the boxing team demonstrates its dedication to recognizing and rewarding excellence in Nigerian sports, and its commitment to supporting the development of boxing in the country.
