A passenger boat carrying 12 passengers on Thursday night capsized in Ughoton River, near Warri, in  Delta State.
A resident in Ughoton community said the incident occurred around 9:35pm on Thursday, adding that of the 12 passengers onboard, only three were able to make it to the shores.
The source identified as Jolomi Amos lamented that the hour of night and the area where the boat capsized made it difficult for local divers to immediately come for rescue.
“As we speak, nine of the 12 passengers are missing, while three survivors have been taken to the hospital for treatment.”
According to Amos, “The circumstances resounding the boat mishap was unclear,” noting that the boat was traveling from a neighbouring community to Ughoton when the accident occurred.
He further said local divers and other volunteers are currently on search and rescue mission for the missing passengers.
