Super Eagles defender, Leon Balogun, is set to re-join former Scottish Premier League champions, Rangers with one-year contract offer

Rangers is expected to announce Balogun as their 7th acquisition this summer pending a successful medical at the Ibrox club.

The 35-year-old’s return comes after an ankle injury suffered by Leon King on Tuesday, which will rule the youngster out for a “significant period of time”.

Balogun, who won the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup during his two seasons in Glasgow, made no secret of his desire to remain at the club but departed last summer when his contract was not renewed.

The Nigerian international went joined QPR last season and despite training with the club this summer, posted a farewell message Wednesday morning following the expiration of his deal at Loftus Road.

He said: “Thank you to everyone at QPR – the staff, the players and you the supporters.

“Despite everything that has happened throughout this very difficult season, I’ve really enjoyed my time at the club.

“I’m wishing you nothing but the best for the future you Rsss.”

Balogun was one of Steven Gerrard’s title winners from 2021. He left Gers last summer to join QPR.

    OPR Confirms Balogun’s departure

Meanwhile, English Championship side, OPR has announced that the Nigerian international Leon Balogun has left the club following his recuperation from the hamstring injury he sustained against Coventry City towards the end of last season.

“The defender’s contract with the club expired in June but he remained part of the squad throughout the close season and early pre-season to aid his recovery.

“The 35-year-old, who travelled with the group to Austria, has now left the camp.

“The club would like to thank Leon for his service and wish him well for the future,” the club said in an official statement

Balogun joined QPR 12 months ago and made 16 appearances during his time with OPR scoring once.
