Africa’s table tennis powerhouses – Nigeria and Egypt will on Tuesday January 16, know their opponents for the ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships (WTTC) Finals Busan 2024 in South Korea as the draws for the global showpiece at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Centre (BEXCO).

The tournament which also serves as qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with the top eight teams in the men and women picking their slots in the team event of the Olympic Games in France kicks off on February 16 to 25.

According to ITTF, Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, and Madagascar are Africa’s representatives in the men’s event while Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, and Mauritius will fly the continent’s flag in the women’s category.

Already, Egypt has picked the continent’s sole ticket in the team events (men and women) and this will afford Nigeria and other African teams to join the North African nation in the team event of the Olympic Games.

With less than 30 days to the tournament, the draws which marks the official final countdown to the championships marks a historic moment for Korea Republic as they embark on their inaugural hosting of this prestigious event, promising a unique and unforgettable experience for all teams and spectators.

The draws will unveil the matchups for the thrilling matches, setting the stage for a captivating championship.

Apart from the Olympics tickets at stake, the championships will see the globe’s strongest teams face off to win two of the sport’s most coveted prizes; the Swaythling and Corbillon Cups.
The tournament also marks another chance to celebrate Korea Republic’s place in table tennis history as the first World Table Tennis Championships were held in London in 1926 and since 1957 has been held biennially. The World Team Table Tennis Championships were first staged as their own competition in 2000.
