The Secretary-General of the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC), Remi Aboderin, has commended Akinlade Abiodun Sunday, the CEO of Fight Gist Media, for his efforts in promoting the boxing sport in Nigeria at both amateur and professional levels through his media outfit, especially his initiative to honour all the active players in the sport during an award ceremony scheduled for 31st March 2025.
Fight Gist Media Boxing Award, where 68 nominees will be competing across 11 different categories that celebrate the sport’s top performers in 2024, will be held inside the National Institute of Sports (NIS) conference hall of National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Reacting to the event, Aboderin, who doubles as the President of the West African Boxing Union (WABU), said, “The young man, who owns Fight Gist, is really doing well for the progress of boxing in Nigeria both amateur and professional and sincerely he needs to be commended as he has helped popularize, progress and promote Nigeria boxing in his own little way through his blog like no one else and the entire boxing fraternity in Nigeria can’t but be grateful.”
“I commend his tenacity, his foresight and I believe he would sooner be an authority in everything boxing in Nigeria nay the world, kudos to the young man, I doff my hat for his yeoman’s effort in the development of our boxing sphere,” Aboderin added.

A number of boxers and sports administrators have already been confirmed for special recognition, so the nominees span multiple categories. The awards will honor boxers, coaches, and promoters who have made noteworthy contributions to Nigerian boxing throughout the year, demonstrating the depth and talent in the national and international boxing scene.

Remi Aboderin, who has significant international experience in boxing administration, will also be honoured along with Babatunde Laguda in the ‘Champions of Nigerian boxing’ category for their unwavering dedication to the sport during the ceremony.

Aboderin, through his leadership roles, has maintained strong ties with global boxing bodies like the World Boxing Council (WBC), ensuring Nigerian and West African boxing meets international standards, and he has facilitated boxing events that attract international attention, working with promoters, sanctioning organizations, and boxing federations outside Nigeria.
