The D’Tigress, Nigerian senior women basketball team, will have course to smile as a report has it that the
Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF) has cleared their accumulated bonuses accrued from from 2017-2019.
The reigning African Champions have been in disagreement with the Basketball authorities over their negligence towards the player’s welfare and were owed monies from their triumph in Senegal in 2017 up until 2019.
According to a report on Abazemedia, in October of 2021, the players posted a video on social media registering their grievances at the board of the NBBF, led by Musa Kida and they also threatened to boycott future call-ups to represent Nigeria for the 2022 World Cup qualification series if their demands are not met.
However, ABAZ Media can exclusively and authoritatively confirm that normalcy will soon return as the players have now been paid all their bonuses by the Musa Kida-led board.
The full payment was for their Afrobasket in Senegal 2017 bonuses, FIBA world cup in Spain 2019 allowance and bonuses, and Afrobasket in Mozambique Maputo allowance and bonuses.
In a letter dated 22nd March 2023, written to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, through the Director of FEAD, the NBBF requested the transfer to cover the total outstanding liabilities, which was paid through the Ministry’s account.
ABAZ media followed up on that letter and can now confirm that the players have received their match bonus and are already preparing to address Nigerians to express their gratitude for standing with the team.
A close source to the players further confirmed that the players also thanked the NBBF board led by Musa Kida and the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare for fast-tracking the payment.
