From April 1, 2025, Namibia revised its visa policies, ending visa-free entry for travellers from 33 countries. The decision, based on diplomatic reciprocity, means that nationals from countries where Namibians require visas will now need one to enter Namibia.

The affected countries include the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, France, Germany, and Japan.

Namibia has introduced new visa requirements for 33 countries due to the absence of reciprocal visa-free agreements. Previously, travellers from these nations could enter Namibia without a visa, while Namibian citizens had to apply for one when visiting these countries.

This policy aims to promote equality by ensuring that Namibians receive the same treatment abroad. By enforcing reciprocity, the government seeks to create a more balanced and equitable visa system.

New e-Visa System Simplifies Application Process
To streamline visa applications, Namibia has launched a new electronic visa (e-Visa) system. This platform allows travellers to apply for a visa online via eservices.mhaiss.gov.na, eliminating the need for in-person visits to embassies.

    Features of the e-visa @
Online Application: Apply from anywhere via the official portal.
Rapid Processing: Most applications are processed within minutes or hours.
Multiple Entry: The visa allows for multiple entries within its 30-day validity.
Broad Eligibility: Citizens of 90 nationalities can utilize the e-Visa system.
Cost-Effective: Fees vary based on nationality and age.
How to Apply for Namibia’s e-Visa
The process is entirely digital, encompassing account creation, application form submission, photo and passport uploads, and online payment.

Since its launch in March 2025, Namibia has already issued over 10,000 e-visas, making travel arrangements smoother for tourists and business visitors.

    Visa Fees and Validity
The cost of a Namibian visa depends on the applicant’s nationality and age:

Category Fee (Non-African Nationals) Fee (African Nationals)
    Adults (12 and above) N$1,600 (€82 / US$88) N$1,200 (€62 / US$66)
    Children (6-11 years) N$800 (€41 / US$44) N$600 (€31 / US$33)
    Children (under 6) Free Free
The visa is valid for 30 days with multiple entries allowed.
Cruise ship passengers must pay a N$300 (€16 / US$17) day-visit fee upon arrival at ports like Walvis Bay and Lüderitz.
Who Needs a Visa for Namibia?
Citizens from the following 33 nations must now apply for a visa before traveling to Namibia:

    Armenia
    Australia
    Austria
    Azerbaijan
    Belarus
    Belgium
    Canada
    Denmark
    Finland
    France
    Germany
    Iceland
    Ireland
    Italy
    Japan
    Kazakhstan
    Kyrgyzstan
    Liechtenstein
    Luxembourg
    Moldova
    Netherlands
    New Zealand
    Norway
    Portugal
    Spain
    Sweden
    Switzerland
    Tajikistan
    Turkmenistan
    Ukraine
    Uzbekistan
    United Kingdom
    United States
    Visa on Arrival Still Available
Travellers arriving at select airports and border crossings can still obtain a visa-on-arrival. However, authorities strongly recommend applying for an e-Visa in advance to avoid delays.

For those seeking longer stays or different travel purposes, Namibia offers alternative visa categories:

Business Visa – For professionals attending meetings, conferences, or short-term business activities.
Work Visa – For foreign employees or skilled workers hired by Namibian companies.
Study Visa – For international students enrolled in Namibian educational institutions.
Investor Visa – For entrepreneurs investing in Namibia’s economy.
Transit Visa – Required for travellers passing through Namibia to another country.

Although the changes might affect frequent travellers, Namibia is still committed to welcoming visitors with efficient visa processes and multiple entry options.
