Mourinho Plans To Discuss Roma Future After Chelsea Interest
Jose Mourinho is keen to discuss his future with Roma after reportedly receiving an approach from Chelsea over the vacant manager’s position. The Portuguese boss was strongly linked with a return to Stamford Bridge for what could have been a stunning third spell in charge of the west London club, only for him to spurn their advances, and now he is seeking talks with his superiors to clarify his future.
The Blues have been conducting a wide-scale search for their new manager and it is likely to conclude with the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino, with the Argentine believed to have agreed terms to succeed Graham Potter take over as Chelsea’s new permanent boss.
Chelsea owner Todd Boehly placed co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart in charge of selecting candidates to ensure they carried out an ‘exhaustive’ interview process, with Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique among those to have held in-person talks with the Chelsea hierarchy.
According to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via Sport Witness, the Premier League side had also floated the idea of bringing back Mourinho for another spell in charge after winning three Premier League titles across his previous two stints. The report adds that an unnamed Chelsea official ‘asked Mourinho’ to meet him in a secret phone call to discuss the position.
