    Team Nigeria continues to soar at the ongoing 4th African Youth Games (AYG), delivering outstanding performances across multiple sports and reinforcing the nation’s growing dominance at the youth level.

    In Beach Volleyball, Nigeria clinched the Gold Medal in emphatic fashion, defeating Egypt 2–0 with convincing set scores of 21–15, 21–17, a testament to the team’s preparation, resilience, and technical excellence.

    Nigeria’s Badminton contingent also impressed, finishing with a strong medal haul:

    * **1 Gold Medal (Mixed Doubles)*
    * **2 Silver Medals**
    * **3 Bronze Medals**

    In Golf, Josephine Clement Benjamin capped a fine outing by winning the Bronze Medal for Team Nigeria at the conclusion of the golf events on Sunday, adding yet another podium finish to Nigeria’s growing medal tally.

    Also, Nigeria recorded another bronze, which came in the 50m Backstroke, as Aidan Dumuje Abili fought to finish on the podium.

    Meanwhile, in Table Tennis, Nigeria advanced to the Semi-Finals of the Mixed Team event after defeating Tunisia in an explosive, tension-soaked encounter concluded just minutes ago. Nigeria will now face Algeria in the semi-final clash, keeping hopes of another medal firmly alive.

    These remarkable achievements reflect the renewed direction and strategic leadership within Nigerian sports. The rapid and purposeful interventions of the National Sports Commission (NSC) under the leadership of Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, have continued to yield tangible results—particularly through deliberate investment in youth development and grassroots sports.

    In 2025 alone, amongst many other events, Nigeria has participated actively in the 1st African School Games, the African Youth Chess Championship, the African Youth Swimming Championship, the CAA Africa U18/U20 Athletics Championship which was proudly hosted by Nigeria, the exposure of the nation’s brightest young talents at the National Sports Festival, including the Invited Junior Athletes (IJA) initiative.

    These platforms have created a sustainable pipeline for identifying, nurturing, and transitioning young athletes into elite competition.

    The successes at the 4th African Youth Games are more than medals, they are indicators of a promising future for Nigerian athletics and sports as a whole. With the Commonwealth Games in 2026, the Olympic Games in 2028, and other major international competitions on the horizon, Nigeria’s long-term planning is already yielding results.

    The future of Nigerian sports is being built today, intentionally, strategically, and inclusively.
