    MD/CEO Nilayo Sports Management Ltd., Mrs. Yetunde Olopade Applauds Bayelsa Government’s Investment to Sports Development

    The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nilayo Sports Management Limited, Mrs. Yetunde Olopade, has commended the Government of Bayelsa State for its commitment to sports development, describing the state as one that clearly understands the power of sports as a tool for growth, youth engagement, and economic opportunity.

    Mrs. Olopade praised the leadership of Governor Douye Diri for investing in key sporting infrastructure and programs that will help position Bayelsa as a major sporting hub in Nigeria.

    “Governor Douye Diri deserves commendation for the bold steps his administration is taking to grow sports in Bayelsa. His background as a former Commissioner for Sports gives him a deep understanding of the sector and why investments like these are important for youth development and economic growth.”

    Amonsgt many other things, the State has embarked construction of a 30,000-capacity stadium in preparation for the National Sports Festival 2028, alongside plans for another 15,000-capacity stadium, demonstrates the state’s clear vision for the future of sports.

    Mrs. Olopade further highlighted the State’s recent sporting achievements, pointing out that Bayelsa athletes have continued to deliver strong performances at national competitions, including victories at the inaugural Niger Delta Games and the National Para Games.

    “Bayelsa may not be the biggest state, but in sports it has shown that determination and good leadership can produce mighty results.”

    She noted that the Yenagoa City International 10KM Road Race, the first of its kind in the State taking place on Saturday, April 4th, will play an important role in promoting sports tourism and expanding economic opportunities for local communities.

    “This race is not just about athletics. It is about creating visibility for Bayelsa, opening doors for tourism, and inspiring young talents who may become future champions.”

    The Newstap/SWAN Awards ceremony also recognized other notable contributors to Nigerian sports, including Philip Shaibu, Director General of the National Institute for Sports; Omolei Imadu, Proprietor of Yacateco Boxing Promotions; and Robert Onyeani, Proprietor of Ahudiya Nnem FC.
