Faith Kipyegon has once again made history by shattering her own world record in the 1500m event at the Eugene Diamond League. On July 5, 2025, the Kenyan middle-distance runner clocked an astonishing 3:48.68 minutes, lowering her previous record by 0.36 seconds. This remarkable achievement took place at the Prefontaine Classic, part of the Wanda Diamond League Final, held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon .

Kipyegon’s record-breaking performance was a testament to her exceptional endurance and speed. Diribe Welteji of Ethiopia and Jessica Hull of Australia secured the second and third positions, with times of 3:51.44 and 3:52.67 minutes, respectively. Hull, who had stuck to Kipyegon until the final lap, praised the Kenyan athlete’s phenomenal performance, saying, “For someone to show up and just keep doing it over and over again, she’s phenomenal”

Kipyegon attributed her record-breaking feat to her rigorous preparation for the Nike Breaking4 Project, a special event where she attempted to become the first woman to break the four-minute barrier in the mile. This preparation, combined with her consistency, discipline, and guidance from Coach Patrick Sang, has propelled her to new height.

This achievement marks the third time Kipyegon has broken the 1500m world record, solidifying her position as one of the greatest middle-distance runners in history. Her previous records include :
    – *2023*: 3:49.11 minutes, set in Florence, Italy
    – *2024*: 3:49.04 minutes, set at the Diamond League meeting in Paris
    – *2025*: 3:48.68 minutes, set at the Eugene Diamond League

With this latest record, Kipyegon continues to inspire a new generation of athletes and cements her legacy in the world of track and field. She’s now gearing up for the World Championships in Tokyo, where she aims to defend her title.
