John Stones is set to part ways with Manchester City this summer, with the club confirming his departure at the end of the season.
The 31-year-old defender will exit on a free transfer, bringing an end to a remarkable 10-year spell at the Etihad Stadium. During his time with the club, he played a major role in securing six Premier League titles, a UEFA Champions League trophy, and several domestic honours.
Stones was instrumental in the club’s historic treble-winning campaign in 2023, featuring in both the FA Cup final victory over Manchester United and the Champions League final win against Inter Milan.
However, recurring injury issues have impacted his recent involvement, influencing the club’s decision not to extend his contract. He has struggled for consistent game time, with his last Premier League start coming in October and only 18 league appearances recorded since the beginning of the 2024–25 season.
In a farewell message shared on Instagram, Stones described Manchester City as a place that will always remain special to him.
“It’s been an incredible journey with many highs and challenges,” he said. “I arrived here as a young player and leave having grown both on and off the pitch — as a father, a husband, and a fulfilled footballer.
“I achieved everything I dreamed of and more. I never imagined reaching this level of success or building such strong connections. Every goal I had when I joined has been surpassed.”
