The Iyalaje Adinni of Oyo State, Ambassador Ramat Romoke Ayinde, has expressed grief over the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, describing him as a remarkable monarch whose legacy will continue to inspire generations.

In a condolence message released on Tuesday and signed by Olanrewaju Agiri, the Publicity Secretary to Iyalaje Adinni in-Council, it said the late Oba’s death had created a significant void in the country’s traditional leadership.

“The departure of this exceptional ruler creates a profound loss that will resonate throughout the nation. He was a visionary leader, both in his wisdom and deeds,” the statement reads in part.

Although Oba Olakulehin’s reign lasted just twelve months, Amb. Ayinde, popularly known as Kayrom Lee, commended his dedication to the welfare of his people and the progress of Ibadan. She described the late monarch’s brief tenure as one marked by exemplary leadership and commitment to communal advancement.

“As short as his reign was, his impact was undeniable. He served with distinction and remained steadfast in his pursuit of development and peace,” she noted.

Iyalaje Adinni concluded his message with heartfelt prayers for the bereaved royal family, the Olubadan-in-Council, and the people of Oyo State.

In accordance with a longstanding tradition in Ibadan, a 21-day mourning period has commenced in honour of the lat@okbeginning on Tuesday, 8 July 2025.

Oba Olakulehin passed away on Monday at the age of 90 in Ibadan. Members of the Olubadan-in-Council are expected to start the process of selecting a new monarch once the mourning period ends.
