Timothy Weah is thrilled with his move to Juventus from Lille, declaring his readiness to star in any position for the Turin giants.
The 23-year-old joined the Old Lady in a deal worth around €12m, signing a five-year contract, and will replace Juan Cuadrado, the Colombia international who has just joined Inter Milan after eight eventful years in Turin.
In his first interview as a Juventus player, Weah, whose father and President of Liberia, George, starred for AC Milan from 1995–2000, scoring 46 goals in 114 matches for the Rossoneri, shared his thoughts on a range of issues, including stepping into the shoes of his role model, Cuadrado.
“I would say Cuadrado because he has very similar characteristics to me. I will draw inspiration from his plays; I want to observe his movements. I still have a lot of room for improvement, and I hope the coach will help me,” the former PSG player told TMW when asked who his role model was.
When asked about playing as a wingback and the pressure of replacing Cuadrado, he said:
“Last season I discovered the wingback role, which was new to me but comes very naturally to me. I’ve worked more and more on it, especially for the defensive phase. I’m 100% available to the club; I’ll play in any position it takes.
“It’s certainly a responsibility; he’s a legend here, a myth. I can be inspired by him, and I’ll have inspiration from all my teammates. I hope I can do my best; it’s a great challenge.”
He went on to speak about the warm reception accorded him by Coach Massimiliano Allegri when he arrived and his perception of Serie A.
He said: “As soon as I arrived, I met the coach, who is a very good person as well as a great coach; he is very accurate and precise even in training.
“He told me that I could learn from him but also from my teammates. I’m very happy to be here, and I hope I can get better and better.
“I know that Serie A is one of the most amazing leagues, if not the best in the world. There are teams like Napoli and Milan, and I know that the competition and the level are very high. I’m ready to learn.”
Weah also played for Celtic in 2019 on loan from PSG and mustered six goals in 89 appearances for Lille from 2019–2023.
