Fidelis Ilechukwu is set to be unveiled as the coach of Rangers International of Enugu. This is coming after days of speculations and uncertainties surrounding his next destination after he severed ties with Plateau United.
This confirmation stems from Coach Ilechukwu himself, who penned an emotional farewell letter to fans, his players, assistants, backroom staff and management of his former club, Plateau United.
Ilechukwu jumped ship, after he and the Jos-based club were unable to agree on a new contract, ahead of the 2023/2024 NPFL season which is already underway, with pre-season activities.
While Ilechukwu had given Plateau United conditions they had to meet if they wanted him to extend his expiring deal, officials of Enugu Rangers were all over the former MFM FC of Lagos and Heartland of Owerri gaffer and even held talks with his representative on the sidelines of the 2023 Federation Cup final in Asaba, Delta State.
Meanwhile, the decision of Abdul Maikaba to walkaway from Rangers on the expiration of his two-year contract, and the unwillingness of Rangers to extend the deal of the former FC Abuja, Kano Pillars, Enyimba, and Plateau United Coach, signaled that the appointment of Ilechukwu as Maikaba’s successor was imminent.
It has been gathered that Ilechukwu will be officially unveiled on Wednesday in Enugu, but neither him nor the management of the Flying Antelopes have given an insight to the details of the contract he signed.
