The Ibadan Ex-Professional Footballers Association, comprising a group of experienced ex-professional footballers in Ibadan, has appointed Idris Animasaun as their media manager and formally inducted him as an executive committee member of the esteemed organization.

The appointment was based on recognition of Animashaun’s professional conduct and dedication to the values and goals of the IEPFA, as stated in a letter dated July 29, 2025, signed by IEPFA Chairman Temitope Obideyi.

The induction ceremony, which was held over the weekend at the IEPFA clubhouse, was a momentous gathering that brought together football greats and respected stakeholders, with the presence of icons like Mutiu Adepoju, popularly known as Headmaster, and Dimeji Lawal MON, fondly called Kabongo. Other members of the group present included Oyo State Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Husein, and Motunrayo Adeniji of Mowoola Fashion.

In his acceptance speech, Idris Animasaun, who is also an architect, said he embraces the responsibility with humility, purpose, and enthusiasm that not only reflects his commitment to sports development but also reinforces the direction he has always believed media should go, which is toward service, storytelling, and the strengthening of community bonds.

“This isn’t just an appointment; it is a call to deepen my long-standing dedication to grassroots sports development, youth empowerment, and the celebration of local sporting heritage. As someone who has consistently used media as a platform to amplify marginalized voices, document community progress, and drive positive change, this new role aligns perfectly with my professional vision and personal values.”

“Media will play a critical role in reshaping the narrative of sports development, especially at the grassroots level. Too often, our communities are rich in talent but poor in exposure. Our youth shine brightly in obscurity, with little or no structured attention to help them break into the limelight,” said the media strategist.

He explained further that “with the evolving landscape of digital and social media, we now have tools that can turn local stories into national conversations and grassroots efforts into global movements. Through crafted content, storytelling, live coverage, interviews, and digital engagement, I intend to use this role to bring renewed visibility to the work of the Ibadan Ex-Professional Footballers Association, while also advocating for increased investment and policy attention to local sports initiatives.”

Animashaun added that “as I take on this responsibility, I do so with the awareness that I stand on the shoulders of giants. The future of Nigerian sports, especially at the grassroots level, demands intentional effort, consistent visibility, and strategic storytelling.”
