Players of Rivers United have smiled to the bank as Chris Green, former Commissioner For Sports in Rivers State doled out N5 million to them for beating Bendel Insurance 2-1 on Friday at the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Super 6 taking place at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena (Onikan Stadium) in Lagos.

Recall that Green had promised to reward the team while addressing them before kick-off against Bendel Insurance in the ongoing NPFL Championship Playoffs in Lagos.

Goals from Morice Chukwu and Joseph Onoja ensured the Pride of Rivers beat the Benin Arsenal to end their 21-unbeaten run in the 2022/2023 NPFL season.

The Pride of Rivers currently occupy the first position with 8 points after four games as they seek to retain the league title.

Reacting, the General Manager of Rivers United, Chief Okey Kpalukwu, has assured Barr. Green that the team will win the league.

While thanking him for motivating the team and his leadership style, he reiterated that the team is capable of retaining the league title to make the state proud.
