The Grassroots Youth Football Development League (GRYFDL) has received widespread commendations as it progresses toward identifying top teams and players in the Under-14 and Under-17 categories.

Following an intense first round featuring over 20 teams across Edo-South and Edo-North senatorial districts, the second round—now with over eight teams in both categories—has continued to showcase thrilling matches and outstanding performances.

The league has provided a platform for young players to display exceptional skills, reinforcing the importance of grassroots football development. Organizers have expressed satisfaction with the discipline demonstrated by all stakeholders and are committed to expanding the initiative to ensure its long-term success.

With its growing reputation, the league is now attracting football enthusiasts and aspiring teams eager to participate in future editions. Clubs that missed the inaugural competition regret the lost opportunity and are looking forward to the next season.

Week after week, young talents are being discovered, with the Most Valuable Players (MVPs) receiving recognition for their outstanding performances. The league not only nurtures raw talent but also sets players on the path to professional careers, offering them a potential source of livelihood.

Currently, the GRYFDL operates through private sponsorship, driven by the collaborative efforts of its board members:

Alexander Amu Okokobioko (Chairman)

Austin Iredia (Finance)

Etinosa Onaiwu (Secretary)

Osabuohien Ogiemwenken (Treasurer)

Osagie Irabor (Welfare)

Wahab Osaretin (Audit)

Fuludu Edema (Coaching Education & Training)

Kingsley Ogbeide-Ihama (Public Affairs)

Additionally, the Edo State Football Association plays a crucial role in the league’s management, led by Fred Newton Erhunmunse (Chairman), Paul Obozua Ojeisekhoba (Vice Chairman), and Bisi Otupate (Secretary), among others.

With its growing impact, there is a strong call for government agencies, corporate sponsors, and other stakeholders to support the league. By doing so, they can contribute to youth development while enhancing their brand visibility through this prestigious grassroots football initiative.
