A mother of two, Olaitan Mercy has cried out via a petition written to the Inspector General of Police, seeking protection from the hands of family of gay victime, Aro Opeyemi who had been answering charges of same-sex sexual activities since October last year.
Olaitan Mercy who is a wife to Pastor Ogunsola Adewale Paul, who is at large over the same offense said Aro Opeyemi’s family has been victimising her to produce her husband so that their son can get a soft landing from the case of same-sexual activities.
It will be recalled that the Nigerian Police Oyo State Command nabbed Aro Opeyemi, and two others, Ife Afeez and Bello Lukman in connection with same-sex sexual activities, an act that had been outlawed in Nigeria. And Aro Opeyemi who had been on the wanted list of the Police for so many years for cases of same-sex sexual activities confessed to police during interrogations that his partner in crime was Ogunsola Adewale Paul who has taken to his heels.
The three suspects have since then been facing the charges at the Oyo State High Court Ring Road Ibadan against the explicit or implicit public show of amorous relationships between people of the same sex which had been prohibited in the state and that deviants would be brought to book in accordance with Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, 2013.
Olaitan Mercy according to the petition sent to the IGP office and made available to newsmen is alleging a threat to her life from the family of Aro Opeyemi hence seeking Police protection, saying she never at any time knew that her husband (Pastor Ogunsola Adewale Paul) who was mentioned in the case used to involved in such act and he had fled since last year that the case was charged to court.
