_A Smile That Builds Peace: Dr Solomon Ogba Celebrates Governor Douye Diri at 67_
By Rosemary Ugiomoh
There’s a certain calm that follows Senator Douye Diri into every room. It’s not loud. It doesn’t demand attention. But you feel it. That’s how Dr. Solomon Ogba describes the man Bayelsa celebrates today at 67.
“Senator Douye Diri is a man of peace,” Ogba says, his voice warm with admiration. “And it shows in everything he does. The man is always wearing a smile. Even when the issues are heavy, his calmness makes you believe solutions are possible.”
That smile, Ogba notes, is more than expression. It’s leadership style. Ever ready to reach out. Ever quick to listen. Ever willing to sit with a problem until it gives way.
“This has translated to the peace Bayelsans are enjoying today,” Ogba adds. “When your leader chooses dialogue over drama, people follow. The streets are calmer. Investors are more confident. Families sleep better. That’s the Diri effect.”
Ogba’s tribute didnot stop at governance. He goes to the stadium. To the track. To the pool.
“Governor Douye Diri loves sports. All sports,” Ogba says with a laugh. “Athletics, wrestling, swimming, football, you name it. He’s not just a fan in the VIP stand. He’s a builder.”
Under Diri’s watch, Bayelsa have stopped being just the ‘Glory of All Lands’ in name. It’s becoming one in reality. Tournaments now land in Yenagoa regularly.
Athletes have better facilities. Young talents get platforms to shine. The state that produced champions is now raising them with structure.
“He’s made Bayelsa a sports hub,” Ogba declares. “And that matters. Sports keeps our youth focused. It puts Bayelsa on the national map for the right reasons. It gives our people pride.”
So as the candles are lit for 67 years of life, service, and steady leadership, Ogba’s prayer is simple.
“I wish my brother, Governor Douye Diri, more prosperous years. Years crowned with good health, wisdom, and the same joy he brings to Bayelsa every day,” Ogba concludes. “Happy birthday, Governor Douye Diri, May the smile that builds peace never fade.”
