Anuoluwapo Bello, captain of the Nigerian Female Flag Football team, has etched her name in history with a remarkable win at the IFAF African Championship in Cairo, Egypt. Fresh from this triumph, Anuoluwapo shared the story of her journey to becoming a champion. “I’ll never forget the feeling of holding that championship trophy aloft,” she said with sparkling eyes. “During the final game, I was completely focused on executing our game plan and trusting my teammates. When we emerged victorious, it felt amazing to know that we had brought the championship title back to Nigeria. I’m proud to have contributed to this historic moment for our country.”

    The Journey to Flag Football

Anuoluwapo’s journey into flag football was driven by the sport’s fast-paced and strategic nature. “I was attracted to the speed, agility, and teamwork required in flag football,” she explained. “I love the excitement of staying active and challenging myself in this sport.” Her background in basketball has also significantly contributed to her success in flag football. “My basketball experience has helped me develop speed, agility, and teamwork skills, which are transferable to flag football,” she said. “I’ve been able to apply my experience in quick decision-making and reacting to situations on the field.”

A Stellar Performance in the Showtime League

Last year, Anuoluwapo had an incredible run in the Showtime League, winning several awards. “It was an unforgettable experience, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to compete at that level,” she said. “The awards were a testament to the hard work and dedication of my teammates and me.”

According to Anuoluwapo, the Nigerian female flag football team’s unity, determination, and resilience set them apart. “We have a strong bond and a shared passion for the sport, which drives us to succeed.” As the team looks to 2026, their goal is to build on their African Championship win and make a strong impression on the world stage. “We’ll focus on continuous improvement, teamwork, and strategy to achieve success in future competitions,” Anuoluwapo said.

Training Regimen and Advice for Young Athletes

Anuoluwapo’s training regimen is key to her success in both flag football and basketball. “I prioritize training, recovery, and nutrition to stay in top shape for both sports,” she said. “My regimen includes a mix of cardio, strength training, and flexibility exercises.”

For young athletes looking to follow her footsteps, Anuoluwapo has a simple yet powerful message: “Stay focused, work hard, and believe in yourself. Pursuing your passions and setting goals can lead to incredible opportunities and achievements.”

    Looking Ahead

As Anuoluwapo looks to the next year, she’s excited for the challenges ahead. “Personally, I aim to continue growing in flag football and to also make a statement at the world championships next year,” she said. With her determination and talent, there’s no doubt that she’ll achieve great things .
