The 2025 HerGame Girls Football Championship got underway in Abuja on Saturday, with Fosla Academy, the defending champions, securing a nail-biting 2-1 win over Horvel Prime.
The tournament kicked off with a bang, featuring exciting matches and impressive performances. Generation Next stole the show, thrashing Emirates Queens 5-0, while SIK Paragon and BIA Ladies also recorded narrow victories against Jeremiah Angels and Gwagwalada Ladies, respectively.
The results set the stage for a competitive grassroots tournament which runs from November 29 to December 6 at the Area 3 Sports Complex.
Although 24 teams initially registered, only 16 were confirmed for participation and divided into four groups.
The top two teams in each group will advance to the quarterfinals, ensuring that every match in the group stage carries significant importance.
On Sunday, Matchday Two will feature a full slate of eight fixtures, with several teams seeking redemption and others aiming to maintain early momentum.
Emirates Queens will face Nasarawa Shooting Stars, Generation Next will take on Talent Developer, while M Squared and SIK Paragon contest a crucial Group B encounter.
In the afternoon, Fosla Academy return to the field against Ladi Kwali, with Horvel Angels closing the day against EUPA Angels.
