The football community in Nigeria and Italy is in mourning following the tragic death of Emmanuel King Okoye, a 25-year-old midfielder who passed away after collapsing during a match in Nigeria.

Okoye, born in 2000, had returned home to visit family when the incident occurred on Wednesday. Reports indicate that he sustained a serious head injury after a heavy collision on the pitch, which led to his sudden collapse.
Medical personnel responded quickly, administering first aid before rushing him to the hospital. Despite their efforts, he was later pronounced dead.

The loss has been deeply felt in Italy, where Okoye built much of his football career, playing for several amateur clubs including Acri, Palmese, Trebisacce, Tricarico Pozzo di Sicar, Campora, San Fili, and Promosport.

In a heartfelt tribute, Canicattini Calcio expressed their sorrow, remembering Okoye as a dedicated and passionate player who made a lasting impact during his time with the team. The club extended condolences to his family, honoring his commitment, character, and love for the game.

His death comes shortly after another tragic incident involving Michael Eneramo, a former Super Eagles striker, who also collapsed and died during a local match in Kaduna—further deepening the sense of loss within Nigerian football.
