    EXCLUSIVE: Enugu State Govt To Spend N9Billion For The Remodeling Of Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Ahead Of National Sports Festival

    Enugu state government has concluded all contractual agreements with China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC) for the commencement of the renovation and remodeling of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium ahead of the 2026 National Sports Festival.

    According to a reliable source who spoke to Sportsday, the contract which is estimated at N9Billion will take care of the Main bowl pitch that will now be made of natural grass, tartan tracks, roofing of the edifice, modern digital scoreboard, Olympic-size swimming pool and a 1000KVA Generator to power the sports arena amongst others.

    “The source said, Any moment from now, renovation work will commence at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium”.

    “I can tell you that the Enugu State Government has released N9Billion to the contractor to start work”.

    In addition, the Awgu Games Village will also gulp the sum of N4.5Billion to complete.

    “It’s glad to also inform you that the Awgu Games Village which will house a lot of activities during the festival will be handled by the same company with an estimate of N4.5Billion to complete the project”, disclosed the source.

    Meanwhile, the state government has concluded arrangements to ensure accommodation for athletes and officials that will be participating at the festival is well handled.

    To this end, the Institute of Management Technology (IMT) in Enugu has been chosen as one of the sites that will handle it.

    This development was disclosed recently by the Rector of the institution, Prof Gozie Ogbodo, while speaking to the media.

    “The honourable Commissioner for Sports, Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu, along with his team visited me to start discussions with IMT on how to partner with us in preparation for the National Sports Festival holding next year., particularly with the provision of accommodation for the athletes”.

    “We took him on a tour to see the level of our hostels., and I can tell you that the institution has already started the process of partnering with the Sports ministry to provide accomodation and other recreational facilities for the athletes”, stated Ogbodo.

    The National Sports Festival, tagged: Coal City Games will hold in November next year.
