Retired Super Eagles defender Sam Sodje has stated that retired professional footballer should be employed based on merit.
While felicitating with retired trio of Nigeria national team players, Kanu Nwankwo, Ifeanyi, Ekwueme and Finidi George as top managers of Enyimba football club, the former Leeds united strongman said they truly deserved it.
The board member of Delta state football association said these players Made their marks in European leagues and they have improved their CV in soccer management as an example to other upcoming and retired players after activeness.
The former Charlton Athletic blocker said the fact that one Played soccer is not an automatic transmission to administrative management of a soccer team.
“I strongly believe these guys will set the pace for other sponsors or club owners to employ retired professional footballers to manage their team because of how they have been able to upgrade their certificates and human management”.
” I respect the government of Imo state for the appointment of Kanu Nwankwo as the Chairman, Ifeanyi Ekwueme as the Sporting Director and Finidi Gorge as the Technical adviser of Enyimba football club”.
The trio have wealth of experience in their various departments.
Kanu Nwankwo was the proprietor of Papilo Fc which later metamorphose into Campos Fc.
Ifeanyi Ekwueme has being the chairman of Apex Krane Fc an NNL side, where 8 of his players were signed to bigger clubs in Europe and Nigeria league.
Coach Finidi Gorge with his wealth of coaching experience in Europe was the overall and last title winner of the Nigeria Professional Football League,NPFL.
