Nigeria’s squash team put up a tough fight, but ultimately fell short against Egypt’s prowess at the Africa Senior Squash Championship in Kampala, Uganda. Despite being the defending champions, Nigeria had to settle for second place in both the men’s and women’s categories.

The nail-biter match that stole the show was the men’s team final between Nigeria’s top seed, Olufunmilayo Gabriel, and his Egyptian opponent. The Egyptian player edged out Gabriel 3-2, sparking wild celebrations in the Egyptian camp.

Nigeria’s only consolation was winning the women’s non-PSA event, where Rofiat Abdulazeez outplayed South Africa’s Helena Suzana Alleta 3-2 in the final. Egypt, on the other hand, dominated the other categories, bagging the men’s singles, women’s singles, and both team events.

Gabriel’s tough loss was a significant blow to Nigeria’s hopes, but the team’s resilience and determination were evident throughout the championship. Despite not walking away with the top prize, Nigeria’s squash team earned respect and admiration from the squash fraternity.
