Tosin Alabi, an emerging political figure, has reiterated his dedication to promoting youth-inclusive governance for the Egbeda and Ona-Ara federal constituency in Oyo State, should he be elected in 2027. Alabi made these statements on Wednesday during a media event aimed at students and young people at Olunloyo Park in Ibadan. There, he engaged with a diverse group of young individuals about the importance of actively participating in civic and governmental processes.

“Youth inclusion is not optional; it is essential for sustainable development,” he said during his speech at the occasion, emphasising the importance of incorporating young people into leadership institutions. We need to make sure that youth are involved in the decision-making process and go beyond symbolic involvement.

“The energy, creativity, and innovation that young people bring to governance cannot be ignored,” he added. My goal is to provide forums where their opinions are not only heard but also taken into consideration when making decisions.

“Governor Seyi Makinde has shown that governance can be people-centered and result-driven,” Alabi said, praising the pragmatic and effective leadership of the governor. He however, emphasised his roots in both Ona-Ara and Egbeda local government regions when discussing his ties to the constituency.

“My father is from Egbeda, and my biological mother is from Badeku in Ona-Ara. I feel a strong, intimate connection to both communities because of this,” he remarked.
“Therefore, I am highly qualified to represent the interests of the two local governments,” he went on. Since our people are my people, I am aware of their difficulties, goals, and special requirements.

“Representation must go beyond occupying an office; it must reflect genuine understanding and responsiveness to the people’s needs,” Alabi said, restating his vision for representation. I am in favour of that leadership approach.

“The future belongs to you, but you must be ready to take responsibility for it,” he said, urging youth to continue actively participating in civic activities. Remain aware, remain active, and never undervalue your ability to bring about change.

Participants expressed hope for increased participation in governance and decision-making processes, and the engagement concluded with a renewed appeal for leaders and young people to have ongoing conversations.
