Edo State emerged victorious, securing the hosting rights to the 2nd Niger Delta Games, with Governor Monday Okpebholo at the helm.
The announcement was made at a grand ceremony attended by dignitaries, including Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC); Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, his deputy, , Rt. Hon Dennis Idahosa; Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Enabulele; and MD/CEO of Dunamis Icon Limited ,Sir Itiako Ikpokpo.
Governor Okpebholo expressed his administration’s delight in hosting the games, promising a world-class event that would showcase the state’s rich culture and athletic talent.
“We have the strength, infrastructure, athletes, and everything it takes to win,” Governor Okpebholo said, mandating the Sports Commission Chairman, Amadin Desmond Enabulele, to work closely with organisers and sponsors to ensure a memorable festival.
The Niger Delta Games aim to strengthen regional ties and drive national development through sports, the commission looks “Beyond Oil: Harnessing Talents” targeting the youth and promoting regional collaboration and integration.
Thousands of athletes from Edo, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Imo, Abia and Ondo state. will converge in Edo State to compete in various sporting disciplines.
Alabo Boma Iyayi, a renowned sports enthusiast, praised the choice of Edo State as the host. “Edo State has the facilities, the passion, and the talent. The 2nd Niger Delta Games will be a huge success,” he said.
