Edo State Deputy Governor, H.E . Dennis Idahosa, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting Edo Queens FC, following their impressive third-place finish at the 2025 1st Governor Douye Diri Women’s Preseason Football Tournament in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Idahosa made this pledge when he received the team at the government house, where they were presented with the third-place trophy. In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Friday Aghedo, Idahosa praised the players for their determination and exceptional performance throughout the week-long tournament, which ran from October 18 to 25, 2025.

The deputy governor commended the team’s efforts, stating that their achievement was a testament to their hard work and dedication to the sport. He assured the team of the government’s continued support, emphasizing the importance of promoting women’s football in the state.

Idahosa also lauded the efforts of the Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Desmond Amadin Enabulele, and Head Coach, Moses Aduku, for guiding both Edo Queens and Bendel Insurance FC to prominence.

The team’s third-place finish is a notable achievement, and their success is expected to boost the development of women’s football in Edo State.
