    D’Tigress Coach Names 20 Players For FIBA African Women Championship

    The head coach of Nigeria women basketball team D’Tigress, Rena Wakama, has called up 20 players ahead of the 2023 FIBA Afrobasket Women Championship holding in Kigali, Rwanda.

    The team is made up of 15 players plying their trade outside Nigeria and five others from First Bank, MFM and Customs Basketball clubs in the domestic league.

    The home-based players that made the cut are MFM’s Hembam Wandoo, Akaraiwe Nkem Uwa of Nigeria Customs as well as First Bank trio of Murjanatu Musa Linan, Mac-Dangusi Theresa and Theresa Anta Joy Ebiega.

    The team, it has been gathered, will open their camp in Abuja.

    Wakama will be assisted by Sotiminu Samson, Juli Negedu, Prince Eazela and Aisha Mohammed.

    The 2023 Women Afrobasket begins on the July 28 and D’Tigress of Nigeria are the defending champions.

    The invited players are: Toyosi Abiola -PG- Eastern Michigan University, USA; Tomi Taiwo -PG- Texas Christian University, USA; Onaibe Believe Jessica -PG- ASPAC, Benin Republic; Okoro Ifunaya -CG- KPA, Kenya; Sarah Ogoke -SG- Ferroviario, Mozambique; Elizabeth Balogun -F- Duke Blue Devils, USA and Mariam Olawoyin -F- Chipola College, USA.

    Others are Adeyeye Adebola -F- Kentucky Wilscats, USA; Amanda Okodugba -F- Grindavik, Iceland; Amy Okonkwo -F- Halcones, Mexico; Lix Dixon -F- Connecticut, WNBA, USA; Pallas Akpanah -PF- Campobassi, Italy; Olawuyi Adenike Olayemi -PF/C- Pea University, Hungary; Lorine Ebo -C- Notre Dame, USA and Blessing Ejiofor -C- Western Virginia University, USA.

    The home-based players are Theresa Anta Joy Ebiega -PG- First Bank; Mac-Dangusi A Theresa -PF- First Bank; Murjanatu Musa Linan -PF- First Bank; Akaraiwe Nkem Uwa -PF- Customs and Hembam Wandoo M -SG- MFM.
