Delta State Revs Up for Niger Delta Games in Benin

Team Delta is geared up to reclaim the top spot at the 2nd Niger Delta Games in Benin City, Edo State, from February 20-27, 2026.

Last year’s heartbreak in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where Bayelsa snatched the title on the final day, has fueled their determination.

With 3,000 U-20 athletes from nine Niger Delta states set to compete in 17 sports, the stage is set for a thrilling event. Festus Ohwojero, Executive Assistant on Sports to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, says Team Delta is correcting past mistakes and working hard to secure the crown this time around.

“We lost the title by one gold medal, and our athletes and coaches are working hard to ensure it doesn’t happen again,” Ohwojero stated. With the Niger Delta Development Commission sponsoring the games and Dunamis-Icon Limited owning the franchise, expectations are high for a spectacular event.
