At 42, Stellato-Dudek resumed her competitive career in 2016 after a 16-year absence from the sport. Her return proved exceptional, culminating in a world championship title in pairs in 2024 alongside her partner, Maxime Deschamps.
“I take particular pride in representing Millennials and women in their forties,” she stated.
She observed that individuals within her demographic are frequently underestimated and often discouraged from pursuing ambitious objectives.
“We are persistently undervalued and routinely told that certain achievements are unattainable. When I resumed training, there was not a single individual who suggested that this goal was within reach,” she remarked.
“The mere fact that I persevered and arrived at this moment, despite significant opposition, serves as encouragement for others to pursue their aspirations even when confronted with skepticism.”
Notwithstanding the historic significance of her Olympic appearance, the performance itself was marred by an unforeseen setback.
Stellato-Dudek and Deschamps sustained an unexpected fall late in their short program, recording a score of 66.04 points and placing 14th ahead of Monday’s free skate, during which 16 pairs will compete for medal positions.
“The incident was entirely unanticipated, as it had not occurred in practice,” she explained, referring to the error on the exit of the reverse lasso lift.
“Nevertheless, I believe we demonstrated resilience in our recovery. In light of the challenges we have endured prior to that mistake, I remain exceedingly proud of our overall performance.”
Widely regarded for their technical proficiency in lifts, the pair expressed particular disappointment that the error transpired during an element that traditionally constitutes one of their competitive strengths.
“As one of the foremost lifting teams internationally, it was especially regrettable to incur a deduction in an element that typically contributes positively to our score rather than detracting from it.”
