Crystal Palace F.C. etched their name into European football history after defeating Rayo Vallecano 1-0 in the UEFA Conference League final in Leipzig, securing the club’s first continental trophy and a place in next season’s Europa League.
A second-half goal from Jean-Philippe Mateta proved decisive as the Eagles completed a dream European campaign in style. The striker reacted quickest after a powerful effort from Adam Wharton was spilled by goalkeeper Augusto Batalla, calmly tapping home in the 50th minute.
The victory sparked emotional celebrations among Palace supporters inside the Red Bull Arena, with more than 11,000 fans witnessing one of the greatest nights in the club’s history.
Manager Oliver Glasner signed off in perfect fashion in what was his final game in charge. The Austrian coach leaves Selhurst Park after transforming Palace into trophy winners, adding European success to last season’s FA Cup triumph and Community Shield victory.
Despite late pressure from Rayo Vallecano, Palace held firm defensively, with goalkeeper Dean Henderson playing a key role as the Eagles preserved their narrow advantage until full-time.
The triumph crowns a remarkable rise for Palace, who only made their European debut this season after winning the FA Cup. Now, the South London club can look forward to competing in the Europa League next campaign after achieving the biggest success in their history.
