With just 6 days left until the highly anticipated PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon, excitement continues to build as organisers announce a special reward package of over ₦2 million dedicated to the Student Race Category of this year’s edition.

Scheduled for December 6, 2025, the student category aims to further inspire young athletes across the country to embrace long-distance running and contribute to the growing road-race culture in Nigeria.

According to organisers, competing students will now have the opportunity to win substantial cash prizes, with rewards structured as follows:
    • 1st Place: ₦1,000,000
    • 2nd Place: ₦500,000
    • 3rd Place: ₦300,000
    • 4th Place: ₦200,000
    • 5th Place: ₦100,000
This initiative underscores the marathon’s commitment to youth empowerment and sports development, providing young runners with both motivation and financial encouragement.

Adding to the momentum, World Athletics has officially approved the second edition of the Abuja City International Half Marathon, a recognition that further validates the event’s standard and growing reputation on the global stage. The approval positions the marathon as one of Africa’s emerging elite road races, attracting local and international participants.

Speaking on the significance of this year’s event, the Managing Director of Nilayo Sports Management Limited (NSML), Mrs. Yetunde Olopade, highlighted the economic and social impact of long-distance races in Nigeria.

“Long-distance races have steadily become a source of economic growth for the nation. This year’s route has been carefully designed to allow residents and spectators to fully appreciate the brilliance and endurance of these runners,” she said.

Mrs. Olopade added that the marathon not only promotes healthy living and tourism but also stimulates business activity across the city.
