Finland-based Nigerian coach Victor Uzoho has voiced strong support for the inclusion of home-based players in the Super Eagles setup, emphasizing the importance of blending local talent with foreign-based professionals.

Speaking as a guest on the Guest of the Month virtual personality program hosted by the Ex-University of Ibadan Footballers Association, Uzoho stated that no national team can thrive without a balance between domestic and international players.

“History shows that successful national coaches—like Clemens Westerhof, Bonfrere Jo, and Stephen Keshi—always valued home-based talent before building around foreign-based players,” Uzoho noted. “There are quality players in the local leagues, and they must be encouraged and given opportunities in the Super Eagles.”

According to him, the focus should always be on merit: “Only the best players should wear the national colors, regardless of where they play.”

Coach Uzoho has made a name for himself in Finland’s football landscape. Currently the Assistant Coach at FC POHU in Helsinki, he’s known for his innovative training methods, tactical insight, and commitment to player development.

Over a coaching career spanning more than a decade, Uzoho has contributed significantly to both youth and senior football. He led teams to notable finishes, including a silver medal at the 2020 Naisten Suomen Cup, a silver in the Kansallinen Liiga (Finland’s top women’s league), and a bronze at the 2018 Helsinki Cup.

His coaching journey began at Atlantis FC as Academy Head Coach in 2008. He has since held key positions at clubs such as PPJ 05, PUIU, and TIPS Naisten Edustus, where he was a standout Goalkeeper Coach. His success in that role included preparing players for elite-level competitions and fine-tuning their technical abilities.

At FC POHU, Uzoho is responsible for designing rigorous training and conditioning programs while also scouting opposition teams—an area where his analytical skills provide a competitive edge. He is equally respected for his off-field qualities, particularly his strong communication with parents and his strategic planning across football seasons.

Beyond the sidelines, Uzoho is seen as a trailblazer for African coaches in Europe. His growing reputation and impressive résumé have positioned him as a future candidate for larger coaching roles on the national or continental stage.

For now, the calm and determined coach remains committed to his mission: developing future stars and advocating for a more inclusive and merit-based approach in African football—starting with the Super Eagles.
