The Executive Director of Sports Development and Operations at the Edo State Sports Commission, Mrs. Sabina Chikere, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Monday Okpebholo for their efforts in transforming sports in Nigeria and Edo State, respectively.
In an interview on Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day, Chikere commended President Tinubu for creating the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the National Institute for Sports (NIS). She believes these initiatives will help grow Nigeria’s sports economy and produce world-class athletes.
Chikere specifically praised the appointment of Comrade Philip Shaibu as NIS Director-General, saying it’s a “master stroke” by the President. She also commended the reward system for outstanding athletes and called on the President to intensify his efforts to take sports to greater heights.
Chikere also praised Governor Okpebholo for his support of sports development in Edo State. She highlighted some key achievements under his leadership, including:
– Setting up the Sports Association board
– Funding the National Sports Festival and National Youth Games
– Plans to establish a mini stadium in all 18 Local Government Areas
Chikere believes the strong bond between the State’s sports commission and the Governor is driving sports development in Edo State, making it a reference point for other states.
