The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, has officially launched the Green Channel initiative at the Lekki Deep Sea Port, marking a significant milestone in the Nigeria Customs Service’s (NCS) efforts to revolutionize cargo clearance and boost trade facilitation. The launch, which took place on February 11, 2026, is part of the NCS’s broader strategy to leverage technology and stakeholder collaboration to drive operational efficiency.

Speaking at the event, Adeniyi explained that the Green Channel is designed to address persistent challenges in container stacking and examination at major ports, which often lead to delays and inefficiencies. The initiative enables seamless cargo movement through a dedicated corridor with minimal bureaucratic obstacles, ensuring faster turnaround times for importers and other stakeholders.

“The Green Channel is a product of mutual trust between Customs and its stakeholders,” Adeniyi said. “We have invested in our stakeholders, and we trust that they will comply with regulations and facilitate trade. This initiative is not just about easing port operations; it’s about supporting Nigeria’s broader economic objective of building a more competitive trade environment.”

The CGC highlighted that the Green Channel will reduce the cost and time required to do business, ultimately boosting revenue generation for the Service. The initiative involves tracking containers from the vessel to a dedicated location, where customers can access them, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.

Adeniyi emphasized that compliance and cooperation are essential to the success of the Green Channel, urging stakeholders to work together to make the initiative a success.

The launch marks a major step forward in the NCS’s efforts to enhance trade facilitation and improve the business environment in Nigeria.
