Bayern Munich Dominates Atalanta 6-1 in Champions League Thriller, Olise Shines

Bayern Munich produced a breathtaking attacking display in Bergamo, dismantling Atalanta 6–1 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round-of-16 encounter. With Harry Kane only fit enough for the bench after recovering from a calf problem, the German champions had little trouble finding goals, thanks largely to the brilliance of Michael Olise.

Olise delivered a standout performance, scoring twice and playing a decisive role in Bayern’s devastating start. By the midway point of the first half, the visitors had already built a commanding three-goal lead, leaving the home crowd stunned.

The breakthrough arrived in the 12th minute when a cleverly worked corner from Olise created confusion in the Atalanta defence. Serge Gnabry reacted quickly to knock the ball into the path of Josip Stanišić, who finished from close range to open the scoring.

Ten minutes later, Olise doubled Bayern’s advantage with a superb curling strike that flew beyond the reach of goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi. The French winger then turned provider moments later, threading a precise pass for Gnabry to lift the ball over the advancing goalkeeper and make it three.

Atalanta struggled to contain Bayern’s relentless forward play throughout the contest. After the interval, Nicolas Jackson — starting up front in Kane’s absence — extended the lead in the 52nd minute, finishing calmly into the corner following a rapid counterattack that featured a clever backheel assist from Luis Díaz.

Olise struck again shortly after the hour mark, producing another exquisite curling effort to cap an exceptional individual display. Just three minutes later, Jamal Musiala added Bayern’s sixth goal, completing a ruthless attacking exhibition that effectively put the tie beyond doubt.

The German side’s dominance could have been even greater earlier in the match, with Carnesecchi making several early saves to deny Olise inside the opening ten minutes. However, once Bayern found their rhythm, the Italian hosts had little answer.

Despite the heavy scoreline, the home supporters continued to encourage their team, and their persistence was rewarded deep into stoppage time when Mario Pašalić tapped in from close range to claim a late consolation.

The emphatic victory also stretched Bayern’s unbeaten away run to nine matches and places them in a powerful position ahead of the return leg at the Allianz Arena on 18 March. For Atalanta — the reigning UEFA Europa League champions — overturning such a deficit in Munich will require nothing short of a miracle.
